Going the Distance: Carolyn Conquers the Great North Run 2025
The Astec Precision team knows a thing or two about achieving exacting standards. So when our very own Finance and Office Manager Carolyn Brown set her sights on completing the Great North Run 2025, we rallied our support as she got stuck into training and took on this fantastic feat! And she raised a whopping £965 for Barnardo’s the children’s charity!
Here is Carolyn’s account of a fantastic day at the Great North Run 2025.
It was a well organised event and the day was a total buzz.
I had butterflies while we were waiting in the pens, and we got a preview on TV as we slowly walked to the start line. Two Newcastle footballers, Murphy and Hope, opened the race, and the wheelchair races set off first followed behind by the elite women and men.
Then it was our turn.
Setting off to the crowds cheering and shouting your name was so encouraging. Children wanting high fives as you go past and being handed ice pops, oranges, sweets and water from the crowds. The streets were lined with people. This helped get me round the circuit, especially the last 2 miles as I climbed the final hill before dropping onto the seafront to the finish line.
Once over the finish line I was handed a medal and a goody bag with the T-shirt. What a day to remember! I am so proud of myself for achieving a half marathon. All the training paid off and I was chuffed with my completion time of 2 hours and 26 minutes.
My medal and T-shirt are extra special as it was noted the day after they had put the map of the river Weir on instead of the river Tyne. It could only happen when I did it!
Completing 13.1 miles is no small feat, and Carolyn’s achievement reminds us that the commitment and excellence we bring to our work at Astec extends far beyond the workshop.
